Living Land - Episode 9: Giving back to Agriculture

One very pleasing aspect that we’ve often encountered on our journey with Living Land, is the willingness of farmers to impart their experience and skill to other emerging farmers making their way in agriculture. Thabo Kolane is an excellent example of this. When he returned from agricultural college to his home community in Qwa Qwa, he set about mentoring as many community members as possible in vegetable production. So too is the case of Lehlohonolo Potsane, a livestock farmer in the Thabo Mofutsanjane district in the Free State. He showed us his unique cattle feedlot system. By producing a large component of his own feed, Lehlohonolo is able to achieve the necessary nutritional requirements, as well as keeping the costs down, making the venture financially viable. And lastly, we visited Monzai Eggs near Vanderbijlpark, a cooperative poultry farm that supplies fresh farm eggs direct to the public, as well as broiler and layer hens. The hard-working ladies on this farm are so passionate about agriculture that they are willing to assist and mentor new farmers who are also making their way in the poultry business.
