Trump would back AUKUS ‘more than any other president’

Herald Sun journalist Caleb Bond says he believes Donald Trump would back the AUKUS pact “more than probably any other president”.

The Australian is reporting the director of China policy in the former Trump White House has confirmed the AUKUS pact will enjoy bipartisan support after the presidency of Joe Biden.

It comes amid fears the return of Donald Trump or another Republican president could sink the deal.

“We know how he (Mr Trump) feels about China," Mr Bond said.

“And I would imagine that he would want to strengthen his ties with his allies, as would any other decent president at the moment.

“So I couldn’t see how AUKUS could be sunk in any form by anyone.”
