Drum Majors lead Pipe Bands marching into Tomintoul ahead of the 2024 Tomintoul Highland Games
Drum Majors lead Ballater & District Pipe Band, followed by Huntly & District Pipe band, marching into the centre of Tomintoul on Saturday 20th July 2024. This was part of their morning march into the village, before the 2024 Tomintoul Highland Games in the Cairngorms National Park, Scotland. With them in Green at the side is the Games Chieftain Jim Fraser.
Drum Major Esson and Pipe Major James Cooper are leading Ballater Pipe Band in front, and with them was Drum Major Bert Summers. Major Derek Dean and Pipe Major Ian Stuart were leading Huntly Pipe Band, playing Bloody fields of Flanders and The 8th Argylls Crossing the river Po. With them were Drum Majors Bill Barclay and Rob Brownfield.
This is part of the tradition as the bands march into the town in the morning, ready for the Tomintoul Highland Games opening later in the day. The Tomintoul and Strathavon Highland Games have been held for over 180 years and are always on the 3rd Saturday in July. The village of Tomintoul lays claim to the title of ‘the Highlands’ highest town’ at 354m, or or 1,160ft.
