Jan Peerce sings "Gott! Welch Dunkel hier!" from Beethoven's "Fidelio." This is from the 1944 Toscanini concert performance/broadcast of the opera performed in NBC Radio City's Studio 8-H. Arturo Toscanini of course conducts his NBC Symphony Orchestra. Other cast members included Rose Bampton (Leonora), Nicola Moscona (Don Fernando), Herbert Janssen (Don Pizarro), Sidor Belarsky (Rocco), Eleanor Steber (Marzelline), and Joseph Laderoute (Jacquino).
Excellent sound from my old "shaded dog" LPs.
