Moving 12 African Elephants From Tembe To Phinda
In September 2021, we partnered with a number of organisations in a monumental task - translocating 12 elephants from Tembe Elephant Park to Phinda Reserve.
Tembe was established in 1983 to protect the last remaining herds of free-roaming elephants in South Africa. Some of them are known as ’Tuskers’: elephants with tusks weighing over 45kg each.
The translocation formed part of The Aspinall Foundation and its partners’ greater mission to disperse the unique genetics of the Tembe elephant population into a larger network of reserves, ensuring these genetics are secured for future generations.
Our part in the move couldn’t have been possible without the support of DCM surfaces, who funded 100% of our involvement in the project.
