Why Great Hitters Close Their Stance (Stop Pulling Off the Ball) | Baseball and Softball Hitting

If you keep pulling off the ball or rolling everything over, this might fix it instantly.

A lot of great hitters close their stance slightly, and it’s not random. It helps control over-rotation, especially if you have quick hips or a strong core that’s hard to slow down.

When you close off, you tighten the connection between your hips and shoulders through your obliques. That makes it easier to stay on the ball longer and sequence your swing more efficiently.

It also changes your contact pattern. Balls that used to hook foul to your pull side can start landing fair, which naturally keeps you through the middle of the field longer.

This is not a rule. Plenty of great hitters don’t do this. But if you’re super fast with your hips, pull-heavy, and struggle with staying through the ball, it’s absolutely worth trying.
