2025 was weakest non-recession year for US jobs in over 2 decades, experts say

For years, the job market has been a bright spot in the U.S. economy. Now, new data shows that momentum is fading.

After years of strong hiring, companies slowed down sharply. Employers added far fewer jobs each month than they did during the post-pandemic boom. In fact, 2025 marked the weakest year for job growth outside of a recession in more than two decades.

Many businesses chose to hit pause instead of expanding. They’re dealing with economic uncertainty, higher costs, and questions about trade and interest rates.

Some companies are also waiting to see how artificial intelligence reshapes jobs before hiring more workers. The unemployment rate stayed relatively low, but it did edge up as hiring cooled, which means fewer openings — not widespread layoffs. #News #Economy #Jobs
