5 Countries That Will Dramatically Improve in the Future

Today we are going to do a little fun thought experiment. What do you think which countries in the world will dramatically improve over the next 10 years? Why have you picked those?

I’ve been thinking about this topic quite a bit. I like to reverse the thought process and think about which countries improved over the past 10 years. To me, this is one of the good indicators that things will keep getting better in the future as well.
What are the factors that drive the improvement? What worked for those countries?

Here is my list of places that I believe will drastically improve over the next 10 years:

1. Number one on my list is UAE. This country improved so drastically over the past 10 years that we can easily give them the title of overachievers. Infrastructure, regulations, architecture, business environment are just some of the things that got insanely better in this country. One of the things that fascinate me is how their passport go so amazing - from not such a great passport they got to one of the best passports in the world. This is certainly the most improved passport in the world, in just 5 years they’ve added many countries to their visa-free access list. Quite impressive! This tells us that where’s the will there is a way. UAE is just one of these places where everything seems to be getting better and bigger. When I think of countries that will keep improving in the future, UAE is number one on my list.

2. The second place is Qatar. If you visit Doha you’ll notice lots of construction going on. At the moment Doha is probably what Dubai was 5 years ago. Qatar is home to one of the best world airlines and my personal favorite Qatar Airways. I generally notice this good trajectory in lots of Arab countries - things just keep on getting better, and improved year after year. Fantastic!

3. China. If you take a look at how China was 10 years ago it is so clear how much it improved! But will China continue with this trajectory? On one hand, I think China will keep getting better, but at the same time, there are certain things that really scare me about this place.

4. I would like to cluster SouthEast Asian countries together: Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia. I can only see this part of the world get better and better. They already offer so much, yet I can only imagine how good things will be for this part of the world over the next 10 years.

5. Again I’d like to cluster a few places together, and I’d like to add Eastern Europe to my list. I think that this part of the world will just keep improving, especially as more opportunities emerge. I can see a huge potential in the labor market, and many job opportunities coming from the west to this part of the world. However, these countries have massive issues, especially regarding corruption. They have power and money-hungry leaders that just keep leaching and taking more and more for themselves. If this problem gets addressed in the right way I can see these countries bloom over the next decade. One country that I’d like to specifically point out is Ukraine. This is a country with lots of resources and peoples’ potential. I think that in the future Ukraine will probably be one of the best places in the world for outsourcing and hiring people.

Those would be my top picks. I definitely believe that the next decade will be the decade of Asia and the Arab world, while we'll unfortunately see the decline of Western Europe and Noth America. Their changing policies, tougher and more ridiculous regulations, bureaucracy, and the politics of safety with governments nannying people is what will probably be the greatest decline of what we still call developed countries.
