DAY 2 - Kalbeliya- Rajasthani Dance Narratives Online Conference at HEARTBEAT OF RAJASTHAN FESTIVAL
DAY 2 of our Online Dance Conference 'RAJASTHANI DANCE NARRATIVES' features several important speakers in a discussion on KALBELIYA:
*Professor Ayla Joncheere shared from her dissertation on the Kalbeliya community offering insights into this often misrepresented tribe of "Gypsy" snake charmers, artists and musicians.
*Rani Sapera, 18 year old dancer and daughter of renowned dancer Khatu Sapera shares a powerpoint about what it means to be a 'Kalbeliya Girl'
*Sej Saraiya, cultural-conservation photographer, filmmaker and writer offered valuable and vulnerable insights about presenting indigenous communities and how we might re examine their narratives
*Aasha Sapera, top performer of the Kalbeliya community today shares a bit of her story and perspectives about being a dancer turned singer.
The goal of the HEARTBEAT OF RAJASTHAN FESTIVAL is to celebrate Rajasthani culture in all its diversity! We were particularly interested in the field of dances performed by women, bridging gaps between classical and folk dances and highlighting both the history and great past of these traditional arts.
