Lake Erie Hyperspectral Flyover Timelapse, September 2020
Aerial footage from a NOAA GLERL remote sensing flyover to monitor harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie. A hyperspectral camera mounted on the aircraft captures discrete bands of wavelengths that help scientists detect different algae types present in the bloom. This airborne campaign is ongoing in conjunction with NOAA weekly Lake Erie monitoring and biweekly sampling in Saginaw Bay, and assists in improvements to the NOAA Harmful Algal Bloom forecast.
