During the initial outbreak of World War 2, Coca-Cola already had bottling plants in 44 countries, including countries on opposing sides of the war.

Once the US decided to support the allies, the current President of Coca-Cola at the time, made a public statement to show support for the war effort by saying that “every man in uniform gets a bottle of Coca-Cola for five cents, wherever he is and whatever it costs the company.”

General D. Eisenhower heard this statement and requested 3 million bottles of Coca-Cola to be shipped to North Africa along with the bottles & equipment necessary to produce 6 million bottles of Coca-Cola per MONTH.

This was all done to upkeep the morale of the US soldiers by providing them with their favorite American beverage regardless of where they were serving.

The bottling plants grew from the 10 initially requested by Eisenhower to 64 plants located all over the world and were operated by 148 Coke employees who were known as “Coca-Cola Colonels”.

The war benefited Coca-Cola by correlating it's worldwide expansion with that of the US Army and making Coke a daily essential for the everyday man.
