When it comes to understanding hunger vs boredom cues, this is one tool I like to use with clients. If you are curious if you’re hungry or bored ask yourself: Would I eat this big ass salad with protein right now? Would I eat this apple? Would I eat (insert food that actually satisfies hunger)? When it comes to boredom eating, you typically gravitate to snacks that are yummy yummy and do nothing to satisfy hunger. So if you say no to a nutrient dense meal that will fill you up…chances are you’re not hungry and just bored. So…what to do if you’re bored? Go for a walk. Watch tv. Read a book. Call a friend. Text an accountability buddy and literally say, “hey I’m texting you right now because I’m bored and don’t want to become a cabinet goblin”. If hunger isn’t the problem…food isn’t the solution.
