💦🐓 PART 2: Should you actually wash your chicken run sand?
I’m so excited that this worked! It transformed my sand back to what it felt like when I first put it in.
✨ If you’re going to try this, there are a few things you need to consider:
1️⃣ You MUST have the right kind of sand and it needs to be 3–4” deep.
Not all sand reacts the same to water. Some hardens like a rock and the other stays soft (like sand in a river). I’ve had both!
👉🏼 Follow me because I’m sharing exactly what kind of sand to use (and how to get it) in my next post!
2️⃣ Your area MUST drain well.
If your run holds water at all, washing it will backfire. Wet sand that doesn’t dry properly means you may end up replacing all of it.
3️⃣ Your sand needs to be CLEAN.
I clean mine daily using the Coop Scoop so there’s no waste buildup sitting in there.
If your sand is dirty, it will smell when it gets wet.
This includes feed and treats. Make sure you have a spill proof feeder and feed treats in a bowl (or better yet, outside of the run).
💦 If you try washing the sand in your chicken run, let me know how it goes!
Make sure to save this to reference later and follow along for more chicken keeping adventures 🫶🏼
