Duke Aquafarm

Volunteers from the Duke community have been growing oysters in Tar Landing Bay in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. Under the guidance of Tom Schultz, an assistant professor at the Nicholas School of the Environment, they learn how to clean and flip the floating bags, and care for the oysters to encourage healthy growth. The project allows students to learn about aquaculture, and they even get to eat the oysters after harvest.
