Before Ricky Craven even had time to react, he was caught up in the biggest crash of his racing career at Talladega in April 1996.

The images of Craven's Chevrolet tumbling up the track ... and then right back down again, tossed by Talladega's catch fencing ... are frightening enough. His account of the mishap is all the more chilling, if for no other reason than his unique perspective.

Knocked unconscious, Craven woke to a NASCAR official laying on the hood of his car, talking him through his extrication from the car. Although Craven did not miss a race, he competed in pain for much of the rest of the season.
