Summer day trip from Kyoto

I think this is one of my top recommended places to visit in summer! Kibune (貴船) is a small town located in the deep forested valley in the northern mountains of Kyoto. ⛰️

The town was developed around Kifune Shrine which is dedicated to the god of water. Fitting to this Kibune is one of the water sources of the Kamogawa River that flows through the center of Kyoto.

There are many restaurants along the river and you can try ‘kawadoko’ where you can sit on these outdoor terraces and feel the cool river breeze. Kibune is a popular summer retreat as the river and the mountain location makes the town about 10 degrees cooler the the rest of Kyoto!

If you visit in summer you can also try the famous nagashi somen at the popular hirobun restaurant. I went around 10:30 and managed to eat around 1:30 so I suggest lining up early!
