Elon Musk, VW CEO Talk About The Future Of Electrification In Both Companies

At the last stop of his visit, after leaving Tesla Giga Berlin, CEO Elon Musk met with the Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess. Diess presented ID.3 and ID.4 to Musk, which the car manufacturer had brought to Braunschweig especially for this purpose.

According to Handelsblatt Tesla CEO Elon Musk flew to the Braunschweig, Germany, airport near Volkswagen's headquarters in Wolfsburg after departing Berlin. There, he test-drove the company's ID.3 electric car during a two-hour meeting with Diess.

Business Insider writes that a spokeswoman for Volkswagen declined to comment on the meeting and a spokeswoman for Tesla could not be reached for comment.

Torque News Tesla reporter Guillaume Humbert writes that this meeting between the Tesla CEO and VW CEO could come as a precursor to a partnership between both companies, with maybe Tesla supplying VW with improved batteries and perhaps VW providing some insights into the European market to Tesla. In any case, both CEOs have been in contact frequently over the past couple of years and are both admirative of one another.

Herbert has been the CEO of VW since 2018 and has worked in the company for nineteen years, working his way up to the board of the company. He studied mechanical engineering in Munich and first started working for Bosch. Elon Musk also comes from an engineering background since he is the chief engineer at SpaceX. This could be one of the reasons as to why the two CEOs get along so well since they have a common enthusiasm for engineering.
