Bob Waugh Shares the news of John Lennon's death live on WLIR (12/8/80)

On December 8th, 1980 - Bob Waugh was doing one of the first radio shifts of his career for WLIR in New York. Someone called the radio station and said “Howard Cosell just said (on Monday Night Football) that John Lennon has been shot. This audio of his air shift is how Bob and Steve North shared the news with listeners.

No one had heard this audio since that day - until recently when a stranger sent in a CD of WLIR air checks ... this 2 minute clip was at the end
