1997 VIDEO: Reaction to Princess Diana's death (complete version)

While playing cards August 31, 1997 we learn Princess Diana was inured in a car accident in Paris, and later react as CNN announces she is dead. An edited version of this has been on YouTube for several years but here is the full, unedited version as I recorded it that night, from the original videotape. This seems to be getting a lot more views, after Oprah's interview with Harry and Megan was shown.

To answer some questions that have popped up - Why was I recording? I was trying out a new camcorder by recording friends playing the card game UNO. When my mom called me to say that Diana was in a car crash I turned on the TV and I kept recording my friend's reactions. It was recorded in Iowa City, Iowa. All of the guys in the video are still alive today (as of today, March 19, 2021). Yes, I got their permission to post this video. The guy who screams when he learns Diana has died is my friend Ken who lives in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It is his genuine reaction to the news of Diana's death. Some people call it a "Wilhelm scream." (Apparently that's a movie term). The guy who stifles a smile after the scream is Scott. (The brief smile was a reaction to Ken's scream, NOT to Diana's death). When CNN announced that Diana had died I didn't turn the camera back to the TV because I thought it was more interesting to capture my friends' reactions. Some people call this video the first of what are now called "reaction" videos, a term didn't exist in 1997 (and neither did YouTube). To see a video of 3 of the same guys (and others) 16 years later, in 2013, see this video of us playing another game (Catch Phrase) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp_O9wfgQ3o
