2 Subaru (SJ) Foresters at Oceano Dunes near Pismo Beach

Went on a camping trip to Pismo Beach. Less than a mile away from our camp ground was the Oceano Sand Dunes, the only place in California where you can drive your motor vehicle on the beach!!!!!

This was my first time to drive on beach sand and up sand dunes.
I was a bit apprehensive, I haven't' found many new generation CVT Forester You Tube video's, and the (2) video's I found showed a stuck Forester (I guess due to not airing down).

Well, here's your proof that the newer generation Foresters with CVT's can drive on sand dunes. I have the White Forester XT (turbo Model). Luis has the Charcoal grey 2.5L Forester. I was blown away by how well our Foresters did.

You will need to run a lower tire pressure on beach sand depending on how fine it is. 15 psi worked the best here. I tried 18 front, 17 rear and was having a tougher time climbing the dunes, a few PSI dropped back to 15 psi made all the difference.

I left my Forester in the "I-ntelligent" drive mode, traction control turned off. Turning traction control off in a SJ Forester does not turn off VDC, it prevents power from being cut off when a slip is detected. It's important you do this when you drive in sand to prevent yourself from getting stuck. You'll also want to do this when in deep sticky snow.
