Mechanical vs Electronic Shutter.

Most modern cameras actually have multiple ways of capturing an image, and each has its own advantages and limitations.

• Mechanical Shutter
Uses physical shutter curtains moving in front of the sensor.
This is often better for:

fast movement
flash photography
reducing rolling shutter distortion

• Electronic Shutter
The camera reads the sensor electronically without physical shutter movement.
This allows:

completely silent shooting
faster burst shooting
less vibration

Sounds perfect right?
Not always 👀

Electronic shutter can sometimes introduce:

rolling shutter distortion
banding under artificial lights
warped movement on fast subjects

This is why things like:

spinning propellers
golf clubs
fast-moving subjects

can sometimes appear bent or distorted.

Personally, I often switch between both depending on what I’m shooting.
Electronic shutter is fantastic for silent shooting and certain situations, while mechanical shutter is usually safer for fast movement or difficult lighting conditions.

Understanding these settings helps you choose the right tool for the scene rather than just leaving the camera on one mode permanently.
