This image is actually two shots combined.

One frame: zooming the lens in and out during a long exposure to create motion.
Second frame: the train frozen sharp.

Merged together to keep the subject crisp while the world moves around it.

Creative photography isn’t always about one perfect shot — sometimes it’s about building the final image intentionally.

Just to clarify.

Handheld photography for personal use is generally permitted under the following conditions:

• No peak-hour shooting
• No disruption to passengers or services
• No tripods, lighting or additional equipment
• Camera handheld only
• Personal use only (not commercial use or social media distribution)

Any filming — including GoPro, body-mounted cameras, or recording devices — requires a permit.

In my case, I applied for and received a permit because:

• I was filming video content
• I was creating commercial material
• I intended to share it publicly
• I was operating as a registered business

It was also requested that I clearly highlight in the video that a permit was required, specifically to prevent anyone from turning up with equipment assuming filming was permitted without approval.

As part of the permit process, I was required to provide:
• My ABN
• A list of equipment being used
• Proof of Public Liability Insurance (minimum $20 million)
• Details of how the footage would be used

Regardless of personal opinions on rules — whether we agree with them or not — it’s always easier and more professional to respect them rather than create unnecessary issues. Transperth officers are simply doing their job.

As a sole trader, my brand and reputation are extremely important to me. I choose to operate professionally and in line with the correct guidelines.
