'The Song of Bernadette' - Leonard Slatkin conducts; Alfred Newman composer; Cindy McTee arranger
Alfred Newman's score for the 1943 movie 'The Song of Bernadette' featured title music which conductor Felix Slatkin included in a 1962 LP album entitled "Inspired Themes from Inspired Films." As an encore to the Detroit Symphony concert marking his 80th birthday, Leonard Slatkin, son of Felix, conducted an arrangement of the piece made by his wife, Cindy McTee. The original recording featured conductor Felix Slatkin also playing the solo violin, with his wife, Eleanor Aller, playing the cello. In Cindy McTee's arrangement, these parts were retained for the two DSO principals, with the solo violin played by Robyn Bollinger and the solo cello by Wei Yu. This splendid encore comes from the DSO concert transmission of 3rd November 2024 and is presented here with all due acknowledgements.
