P0300 Rough Idle When Warm – Intake Gasket Leak (GM 5.3L/6.0L)

Diagnosing a P0300 random misfire code accompanied by a rough idle that only occurs when the engine is warm points to a classic culprit: a severe vacuum leak from the intake manifold gaskets. This problem is especially prevalent on GM V8 engines, such as the 5.3L and 6.0L found in popular trucks and SUVs like the Silverado and Tahoe. The reason it idles smoothly when cold is because the ECU is in \Open Loop,\ running a rich fuel mixture that compensates for the extra air. Once at operating temperature, the system enters \Closed Loop,\ leaning out the mixture. The unmetered air from the bad gasket then creates a severe lean condition, causing the misfire. A key diagnostic sign is observing Short Term Fuel Trims (STFT) on a scanner; they will be highly positive (over +15%) at idle but will drop near zero as you raise the RPM. The definitive fix requires replacing the intake manifold gaskets and the throttle body seal.,
