Rewilding Patagonia National Park, Chile

In Patagonia National Park, Tompkins Conservation Chile has been working for over 15 years to heal the ecological wounds of the past and augment the population of threatened species. Our rewilding work tells the story of one the biggest ecosystem restoration projects in South America, and the process of transforming a sheep ranch into a National Park.

Today Patagonia National Park is home to 10% of the global huemul deer population, the most endangered large land mammals of the IUCN Red List. With Andean condors soaring overhead, and Darwin's rheas, pumas and herds of guanacos grassing the grasslands, Patagonia National Parks' varied ecosystem make it a haven for wildlife and seedbed for regional rewilding.

The creation of National Parks and large-scale ecological restoration are the cornerstones of our strategy to help the world get back in balance and avert climate catastrophe and extinction crisis.
