How To Write A Kindle Book When You Don't Think You Can

At the Marriott in Cebu, the Philippines, I kill time on Facebook before my 4pm call with Steven Aitchison, my business coach.

Steven Aitchison is a successful personal development blogger and businessman based in Motherwell, Scotland, who I’ve known for a few years.

“I'm starting a conference in 2 days, I’m never going to finish this Kindle book I’m writing,” I moan. “I’ve only written 7,000 words and, at my usual rate of 500 a day, it’s not going to happen!”

“That should only take you five hours. Why don’t you just finish the book before the conference? Imagine how you’d feel when you’ve done it?”

“Yes, but, but, but… WTF??!?!?”

Steven’s suggestion was as audacious as it was challenging.
I’d only ever written 500 words a day in my usual laid-back way before. I suddenly see how my laziness had allowed me to get into a terrible mental block with this book.

I finish the call with Steven and rush outside the hotel to the neighboring shopping mall, dart into the first restaurant I see (I haven’t eaten anything yet). I ask the same question I’ve probably asked every single day the last two months: “Do you have Wi-Fi?”

“Actually, sir,” replies the beautiful Filipina waitress, “it’s not that good.”

“Great!” I reply, and sit down to write.
