Today we are checking out a very special camera. I’ve been eyeing this one for a very long time and is now, the most expensive camera I have presented on this channel. Let’s check out the specs, set it up to record on my Network Video Recorder and PC using BlueIris. We’ll also check out the daytime and nighttime video quality and see if it’s worth $868.00 US.
This is Hikvision’s 4MP speed dome security camera boasting a 25x optical zoom and ultra-low light sensor. The price ranges from about $600US to almost $900. You may be thinking, well, geeezzzeee, that’s expensive for a 4MP camera… but it’s going to boil down to the quality of the sensor and any bonus features this device can offer.
We look at the drill template and review what the holes are for. There is also a CD included but I recommend downloading the latest version of Hikvision tool and using SADP for camera management. There is also a weather sealing coupler in the box along with a star wrench. I don’t recommend using the cheap screws in the box but rather using your own because the cheap one will strip easily. There is also a safety line in the box to prevent the camera from taking a fall. One thing I found interesting was the power adapter including with this package. This is pretty rare since most people use PoE to power their cameras. This camera accept PoE+ because it consumes 18w of power. Normal PoE has a limitation of 15.4w over 2 of the 4 unused wires inside a network cable. This is a PoE+ devices and requires electricity using all 4 non-data wires. You can use this power adapter for testing or if you don’t have a PoE+ switch. My NVR supports PoE+ devices, aka IEEE 802.3 at.
We look at all the camera features, install it in a couple locations and test out the daytime and nighttime footage. We review the PTZ abilities and test out the ultra low light sensor on the northern lights. Turns out the auto smart tracking feature is a huge plus but the other features bring down this camera. In the end, I don’t think it’s worth the hefty price tag. It has potential, but has work to go on the firmware. Some hardware upgrades also wouldn’t hurt.
