Ready to release more oil if necessary: IEA Chief Birol

IEA Chief Fatih Birol has signalled readiness for further oil releases as the West Asia conflict continues to disrupt global energy markets. Speaking after meeting Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Birol said 400 million barrels have already been released — just 20% of total emergency reserves — and more can be deployed “if and when necessary.” He, however, expressed hope that additional intervention would not be required. With the Strait of Hormuz shut and dozens of ships stranded, concerns over global energy security continue to mount.
