Quebec by Bike: Exploring the Route Verte (Green Route)

Let's travel Quebec by bike! This video covers our cycling trip from Montreal to Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu on Quebec's Route Verte (Green Route).

The first leg of our trip was a 17km ride to Parc de la Cité in the suburb of Longueuil. Parc de la Cité has picnic tables, a water bottle filling station, and outhouses available to the public.

The second leg of the trip followed the Route Verte for another 13km to Chambly, a city of about 30,000. Chambly is quite tourist-oriented with lots of shops, restaurants, and boat rentals and is home to the start of the Chambly Canal and Fort Chambly, both National Historic Sites of Canada. Chambly's waterfront also offers a nice view of Mont Saint-Hilaire.

The third leg of the trip followed the Chambly Canal for another 18km to the final destination, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu is a less tourist-oriented city but still interesting to see, with a train running through the centre and an Oasis-themed public space set up downtown. Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu usually has a hot air balloon festival that takes place in August, but it was cancelled this year due to the pandemic.
