Was it right to give drag artist Le Gateau Chocolat £215,000 of culture funding during coronavirus?

Michael Kill, CEO of The Night Time Industries Association says the country is in unprecedented times "and every bit of provision that comes out, every bit of support in terms of grant etc, is being scrutinised."

These comments come after a drag queen named Le Gateau Chocolat was reportedly given £215,000 from funding designed to support venues affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Arts council said that “Le Gateau Chocolat is a leading Black and LGBTQ+ performer, and one of the few performers in Britain whose work spans across multiple art forms, including drag, cabaret, opera, musical theatre, and live art.”

Other acts and venues, including Manchester’s comedy club, The Frog and Bucket, had their grant applications rejected.
