Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett tried to distinguish the difference in the more abstract way that legal scholars think and write about cases compared to the responsibility of judges. "I have had the experience of changing my mind at various points along the way. I have gone into oral argument more than once thinking, you know, I was going to rule one way and then oral argument changed my mind," she told Sen. Mike Crapo, R-Idaho. As President Donald Trump's nominee, Barrett's record of legal critiques as a scholar has been scrutinized on issues like abortion and the fate of the Affordable Care Act. She answered questions on the second day of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing. The Oct. 13 hearing comes three weeks before Election Day. The second of four days of scheduled testimony gave senators an opportunity to ask Barrett about her record and approach to the law.
