Walk Around Ernest Hemingway's Homes in Chicago Mid-July 2021 (1 of 2)
This is a "literary" walking tour around where Ernest Hemingway lived in Chicago during 1920 and 1921. Hemingway is one of my favorite writers.
It has been about one hundred years since Hemingway left Chicago. One hundred years can be long, one hundred years can be short. It is long because so many things have changed in Chicago, and only one of his homes, at 1239 North Dearborn St, still exists. One hundred years is short, because near his homes, there are still some old buildings, looking built before the 1920s.
Mid-July 2021, I visited the area around Hemingway's Chicago homes, not far away from the shore of Lake Michigan. I walked around his three homes: 1230 North State St (Pkwy), 1239 North Dearborn St, and 63 E Division St. The first two addresses could still be found easily. The first one was now a high-rise building. The second one still looked the same as when Hemingway lived there. It was difficult for me to find the third one, although the adjacent addresses could still be seen.
All these three homes were near to each other. Some old buildings still stood in this area. Did Hemingway ever pay attention to those buildings as I did?
This area was quieter, with less traffic and tall buildings than the downtown Loop, although some construction projects were going on. Restaurants' outside dining areas gave a lively atmosphere.
I was wondering if people living nearby knew Hemingway had ever lived in this area, and what his literary influence was on the surrounding neighborhoods.
