3 Postural Exercises to Improve Posture and Strengthen Your Core
Dr. Patrick Bradley of The Joint Chiropractic explains how improving your posture starts by strengthening your core. In this video we’ll be covering three different Postural Exercises.
3 Postural Exercises to Improve Posture and Strengthen Your Core
For all exercises, perform as advised by your chiropractor.
Exercise 1: Prone Cobra
Poor posture can cause your shoulders to roll forward forcing you to
hunch. The first exercise is the Prone Cobra, which helps get your torso and shoulders back into better alignment.
How To Preform the Prone Cobra Exercise
• Start by lying face down on the ground
• Place your hands near your shoulders, with palms facing down
• Push yourself up with your hands until you are looking forward
• Then release
Exercise 2: Wall Angel
Poor posture on a regular basis can cause your shoulders to hunch. The second recommended exercise, Wall Angels, can help get your torso and shoulders back in better alignment.
How To Preform the Wall Angel Exercise
• Start in a standing position, against a wall
• Press your shoulders, heels, hips and head against the wall
• Put your arms against the wall – hands even with your head
• Slowly raise your hands over your head
• Remember to keep your shoulders tucked down, away from your ears
• Once you reach the top, lower your hands down the wall as far as
possible
• Then release
Exercise 3: Supported Neck Traction
Poor posture can cause your head to push forward from your shoulders. This forward head posture can create a lot of stress on your neck and may cause a loss of the curve in your neck. This last exercise helps restore that natural curve and helps you carry your head directly over your shoulders.
How To Preform Supported Neck Traction
• Start by lying face up on a firm surface
• Roll up a hand towel and to tuck below your neck, at the base of your skull
• Relax and let the towel support your neck
