NO GEAR RETRACTION? // Lufthansa A380 visiting Leipzig/Halle Airport

With demand for passenger flights plummeting due to the Covid-19 pandemic and newer, more efficient aircraft available, airlines all over the world took their Airbus A380s out of service, stating they weren't efficient enough and in the future, instead of flying to a few big airports and distributing passengers from there to their final destinations with small, highly efficient planes, more direct connections would be established. Lufthansa (LH/DLH) was amongst those.

Now, in 2023, with demand recovering and the major aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing both struggling with production delays, we see many of these A380s reactivated. And again, this includes Lufthansa. Of the 14 Super Jumbos they once had in their fleet, they have sold 6 back to Airbus and of the remaining 8, 4 will be back with Lufthansa this year, 2 will be reactivated in 2024 and there are rumors, that even the last 2 are going to re-enter service!
Did they finally realize that on a busy route, the alternative to an A380 is not an A350 or a Boeing 787 "Dreamliner", but two of those? I don't know. 😉 What I do know is, that D-AIMK, the first A380 Lufthansa reactivated, repeatedly came to my local airport Leipzig/Halle (LEJ/EDDP) for intermediate landings in the last days and weeks, of which I was able to capture one, including the subsequent take-off, following which the plane's landing gear doesn't seem to have been retracted!
