Hidden Black History - Now You Know!

In 1944, the tragic Port Chicago Disaster exposed the ugly racism inside the U.S. military system. More than 300 men were killed when ammunition exploded at the segregated naval base in Port Chicago, California. Most of the workers forced to load bombs and explosives were young Black sailors given little to no proper training while white officers supervised from a distance. After the disaster, 50 Black sailors refused to return to the same deadly conditions without safety changes. Instead of addressing the injustice, the Navy charged them with mutiny and sentenced them to prison, while white leadership faced no punishment. Decades later, their convictions were questioned, exposing one of America’s most shameful military racial injustices during World War II.
