Melanie, 43 y-o, used to weigh an incredible 535 lbs. After having a bypass surgery, she rapidly lost 360 lbs but not the skin! Her body started, in her own words: to deflate and she was left with all the skin that was initially there. Although she accepts her new body, she reports that she feels that the skin is heavy on her bones and would consider cosmetic surgery.
Which is not the case of Roger, 64 y-o, who, after reaching a weight of over 500 lbs and being over-weight most of his life, sees his extra loose skin as the badge of courage for what he accomplished when he lost over 300 lbs in 2 years.
Some people, like Hope would even wonder if it was a good idea to lose the weight. Weighing 327 lbs when she was 20, Hope lost over 200 lbs and was left with sagging extra skin that made her feel that all the efforts she did to achieve her goals were not worth it. She is convinced that surgery is the only way for her to move forward in life.
