The Pace Report: "Reflections On Pianists" The Angelica Sanchez interview

Welcome to another edition of The Pace Report featuring educator, pianist, and composer Angelica Sanchez.

Angelica's latest album "Sparkle Beings" is a trio outing featuring NEA Jazz Master, educator, and drummer Billy Hart and bassist Michael Formanek. The album pays honor to three of her favorite pianist/composers: Mary Lou Williams, Duke Ellington, and Cecil Taylor. She also has a duo solo piano project with pianist Marilyn Crispell titled "How To Turn The Moon."

The Phoenix, Arizona native has played with the likes of Paul Motian, Richard Davis, William Parker, Ben Wonder, and Wadda Leo Smith. Angelica is currently the Assistant Professor of Music in the Division of the Arts at Bard College.

She recently played the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning in Jamaica, Queens and sat down to discuss her latest record. Also, reflects on her favorite pianist as well talk about her role as a bandleader and composer.
