Adrian from West Midlands Jerk Centre in Birmingham: Stories of the West Midlands

Inspired by his elders who made finger-lickingly good food, Adrian set up his own jerk street food company. West Midlands Jerk Centre was born through the love and celebration of
Handsworth, Caribbean culture, and local community.

Adrian says, “I’ve always been around food since I was young, watching the elders and then jerking at local events in Handsworth Park. I can remember the loud sound systems, the food, the rhythms, the sweet jerk aromas in the air.”

The mouth-watering scent of jerk lures you in and you can’t help but want to eat it! Using only the freshest ingredients, Adrian puts time, love and devotion into marinating his dishes. He says, “Jerk is more than just food to me. I always jerk my meat for at least 24 hours, at least. The longer it marinates, the sweeter it tastes.”

Adrian loves going to the morning markets to meet fellow jerk men collecting their ingredients for the day. He states, “We all know we’re doing it right because we’re getting it
fresh.”

The West Midlands Jerk Centre serves the local community at events and also has a pop up stall at Hockley Social Club - a former foot printing factory turned street food venue. Situated in the historic Jewellery Quarter, Hockley Social Club is run by the team behind Digbeth Dining Club and is a relaxed food hall and late night hangout. It’s one of the most exciting and diverse offerings in the West Midlands under one roof.

“Hockley Social Club brings people together from near and far. I’m glad to be a part of it and it enables me to showcase jerk street food at its finest.
