Framing a Watercolour Painting: How to Cut Mats and Assemble a Chop Frame

Matting and framing your own art can save you a lot of money...but only if you know how! I'm demonstrating how I cut mats and assemble frames for displaying my watercolour paintings in a classic and traditional style.

My mat cutter is a Logan 450, which I bought in Canada at Opus Art Supplies.

I like Peterboro Conservation Mat Board; it comes in a huge range of sizes and is acid free and archival.

My chop frames are custom ordered from my local framer, so I don't have a source for them. If you have a mitre saw you can buy lengths of frame moulding and cut them to the size you need.

The other method I love for my paintings is to mount on a wood panel. You can see a video on that process here: https://youtu.be/XHeDltkj9_M
