Scientific Name: Family - Mytilidae
Range: around the world but prefer temperate waters
Habitat: often sessile and benthic (unmoving and living at the bottom of the water column)
Size: often harvested at 4 inches (10 cm) but can double this of left alone
Diet: phytoplankton filter feeder
Threats: sea stars, whelks and other snails, sea birds, etc.
Lifespan: often harvested within 2 years but can live for decades
