Cold Process Liquid Soap Making (100% Coconut Oil Soap) 冷制液體皂

Cold Process liquid soap making video using potassium hydroxide used for cleaning. Hope you enjoy this video!

Please always follow safety requirements while making soap! Sodium/Potassium hydroxide is caustic and can cause burns on skin or on mucous membranes!

It has been around a year since I started this channel and I have decided to create a similar video of my first video on this channel - making 100% coconut oil liquid soap but using the cold process method. Liquid soap making is always a no brainer where you just follow the soap calculator by measuring the required amounts and keep blending. Cold process is just slightly different where you don't have to blend endlessly, just to keep the soap emulsified and let the soap do its work. Hot process on the hand, you get to watch the soap go through the stages and its always fun to understand what happens to your soap when it goes through saponification. You can refer to this video if you want to see the different stages: https://youtu.be/5j6nns-Lgs0

The recipe I am using in this video:
100% Coconut oil
1% superfat
1:3 lye:water concentration (you can use a 1:2 concentration and it will help the soap trace faster)
Remember to use potassium hydroxide or you will end up making solid soap bars! My coconut oil was already melted because of the hot environment I am in but you can sure just pour in the lye solution into the oils and it should eventually melt.
This is a soap paste for cleaning therefore a high concentration of coconut oil! I made a 100% single oil soap because I have also planned for a single oil 100% olive oil soap to mix and try different combinations for different purposes. This is the fun part with liquid soap where you can still play with the soap after stages of saponification.

How I dilute my soap paste:
The batch made in the video is made with the total oil weight of 500g and would yield around 1000g of soap paste. Please run the formula through a lye calculator first and check the purity of your potassium hydroxide. The amount of potassium hydroxide varies with different purity and hence I did not include the amount I used. The lye calculator I like to use is http://soapee.com/calculator. The soap paste will then be further diluted for use. The dilution rates vary with person to person, the dilution I used for this soap will be 1:1 for a concentrated soap used for cleaning!
I also made a video of how I dilute my soap paste: https://youtu.be/qoTb3qLEtTA
