Resealing the J Rail on my Vintage Caravan to Prevent Leaks! (Ep.5)

We've begun preparing the exterior for a new coat of paint. Firstly we need to reseal the J rail to prevent future leaks. I also begin to install my new interior bench tops :)

Also, how awesome are Ange & Scott for giving me a hand! Sanding a Caravan is a horrible time consuming job. I can't thank them enough for their help!

How I resealed the J Rail?...
1. I used a drill with a wire brush to sand away the old sealant and paint as much as I could.
2. I used Rust Guard to wipe the surface clean before applying new sealant.
3. Then I applied the new sealant, messy where not visible and neat where visible. The messy spots will prevent leaks much better because I applied much more sealant.
4. I covered my hands with detergent and water then rubbed the sealant, moulding it really well to the area applied.
5. On the visible spots, where I want a neat finish, I scrapped the sealant away but making sure the sealant is still filling the holes in the J Rail where leaks may occur.
6. I used the Rust Guard to clean away sealant on areas I didn't want it to be.
7. I also made sure I filled any old rivet holes with sealant as well.

**I am not a professional at all, but a Caravan expert showed me this technique 4 years ago**

The bench tops are Blackbutt timber and I had them custom made by Jordan from Acorn & Oak (@acornandoak on Instagram)
