Lake adventure kayak trip, Okataina, Rotorua ⛺️🛶

After a rough night for my solo beach camp, Day 2 of my overnight kayak trip on Lake Okataina dawned bright and breezy with the winds increasing to 27km an hour as the day wore on.

I had a relaxing start to the day hanging out at my beach campsite with time for meditation, yoga and my famous breakfast porridge.

Although I was able to complete the circumnavigation, It was a difficult trip and i was pleased to finally make it back to the boat ramp. I was the only boat on the lake, everyone else had more sense and I could only able to film when i was in a relatively sheltered spot so the video does not show the full picture. I tried to capture the speed at which i was being carried along without even paddling!

Lake Okataina is a beautiful lake and I plan to return in better conditions and take more time to explore.

Hi I’m Sharon Evans the Freewheeling Kiwi and my mission is to inspire and motivate other women to spend time in nature and reconnect with the outdoors, wherever that might be and at whatever level they are comfortable with.

The best things in life happen when we're outside of our comfort zone and until we push our boundaries, we'll never know what we like or what we're capable of. Independent and self-supported travel or micro-adventures are for all of us however sometimes knowing where to start, how to prepare or what to expect can be a little overwhelming. I'm here to help and encourage you on your way.
