Modernized AKM & AKMS - AK History Part II

In Part II in our AK History series, we get into the Modernized Kalashnikov type rifles. Adopted in 1959 as the AKM for a fixed stock and AKMS for an underfolding, these variants are what really took off and went all around the world. The AKM was the firearm that secured Kalashnikov's place in history. It was designed to be faster, easier, and cheaper to mass produce compared with the original AK-47. It also had benefits for the soldier too; being over 2 lbs lighter, easier to controll on full-auto, and even more reliable compared to the AK-47.
In this video, we look at the AKM's development in Soviet-Russia, and then how it spread throughout the Warsaw Pact and ended up in combat in virtually every corner of the globe.
