Teen Girls Who Hunted N*zis - Freddie and Truus Oversteegen #wwiiheroes #untoldstory
Freddie and Truus Oversteegen were teenage sisters from the Netherlands who joined the Dutch resistance during World War II. Born into a working-class family, they were raised by a fiercely anti-fascist mother who taught them early on to stand up against injustice. When the N*zis invaded the Netherlands, the girls were just 14 and 16 years old — but they didn’t hesitate to fight back.
Recruited into the resistance, they began with simple tasks like distributing leaflets and delivering messages by bicycle. But soon, their missions grew deadlier. Alongside fellow resistance fighter Hannie Schaft, they developed a chillingly effective tactic: they would flirt with N*zi officers in bars and on the streets, luring them into secluded forest paths under the pretense of a romantic meeting. Once there, they shot them point-blank in the head.
The sisters also sabotaged Nzi infrastructure, including railways and bridges, using dynamite to disrupt enemy transport. In addition, they helped Jewish children escape deportation, smuggling them into hiding and across borders. Freddie was reportedly the first of the two to kill a Nzi collaborator while riding her bicycle.
Despite their success, the psychological toll was immense. Both suffered nightmares, insomnia, and depression after the war — symptoms we now recognize as PTSD. They never revealed how many N*zis or collaborators they had killed.
After the war, Truus became a public speaker, sculptor, and advocate for peace and remembrance, while Freddie led a quieter life. In later years, both were recognized by the Dutch government for their resistance work, and their story began to receive the attention it had long deserved.
Freddie and Truus Oversteegen were not just brave — they were fearless, cunning, and determined. Their story is a testament to how even the youngest can resist tyranny with courage and conviction.
