Facebook Marketplace Scams: 2005 Northwood Nash 29V Camper
In early April 2024, I noticed this scam going around on Facebook Marketplace claiming that a 2005 Northwood Nash 29V Camper was being sold for $3,000. The camper appeared to be worth a lot more money than $3,000, to say the least. It's not the nicest camper in the world but it also seems decent and didn't appear to have any major issues. This specific Facebook Marketplace scam involved WhatsApp, maybe a wire transfer and someone claimed they were selling it for their sister. Sounds a bit suspect, yes? That's because it was a scammer using photos from an old listing to scam someone else. And yes, that old listing may also have been a scam. Someone likely sold the camper or RV in the past but it wasn't the person selling it when I was looking at it.
Here's what the Facebook Marketplace scam warning said: "MARKETPLACE WARNING when you see an ad and the price is TOO GOOD to be true it Generally is a SCAM. FIRST look at the sellers list of ads. They like to post the same ad in every province at the same time! SECOND copy the image and do a reverse google search and you will likely find the ad listed elsewhere! THIRD they are selling it for someone else and it can’t be viewed right now but WILL take a deposit to hold it for you🤣🤣🤣. FOURTH they respond with a generic copy and pasted response with a whatsapp phone number or an email. DO NOT GET RIPPED OFF. I seen a beautiful trailer today for 3000 bucks and it would easily sell for 10K and it was listed across Canada in every province! I responded to it with 2 different methods to get the same exact response. NEVER SEND MONEY TO HOLD AN ITEM‼️‼️‼️ THE PEOPLE OF NOVA SCOTIA ARE HONEST -most of them and if someone says come look at it and or first come with money and gives an address you can bet it is legit. NOT these scammer ads that are just way too good to be true with super low prices of highly sought after items."
