1 Mental Shift Took This Step 2 CK Student From 200 to 245

I have coached USMLE Step 1, USMLE Step 2 CK, and USMLE Step 3 students for over a decade. I went to Stanford Medical School, scored top 0.1% on Step 1 and Step 2 CK, and trained in anesthesia at Harvard. The medical student in this clip was stuck at a 200 on USMLE Step 2 CK NBME practice exams. In three weeks he went from 200 to 245 without learning any new material, just by changing how he made decisions between two close answer choices.

Most Step 2 CK students assume the fix is more UWorld, more NBME blocks, more Amboss reps, more shelf reviews. It is not. If you are a USMLE Step 2 CK student stuck between two answer choices, finding one tiny detail that does not fit your idealized diagnosis and throwing the whole answer away, the problem is not knowledge. It is the mental posture you bring to every answer choice evaluation on Step 2 CK and shelf exams.
