Move Recovery Partition Left of C Drive with a Free Tool

If you want to move the Healthy Recovery partition left of C drive, you need to create a new partition before the C drive, and then assign it as the new Recovery partition for your Windows. Creating a new partition before the C drive can be done with the free tool Partition Resizer.

Partition Resizer can move partitions when it has adjacent unallocated space, no data loss, no app reinstall. However, the orders of the partitions cannot be changed. If you want to move partitions to change their orders, you need to do it with a workaround: create a new one, clone the old one to restore it, and change its drive letter later.

Is it safe to move the recovery partition left of C drive?
is it safe to move the recovery partition?

Yes — it can be safe, but only if done correctly. Here's what you need to know:

🔹 Moving the recovery partition

It's generally safe if you use a reliable partition tool (like Windows Disk Management, limitations-aware tools, or reputable third-party software).

There is a small risk of data corruption if something interrupts the process (power loss, crash).

🔹Always back up important data first.

is it safe to create a new recovery partition and delete the old one?

This is usually the cleaner and safer option, especially if:

Windows has already created a newer recovery partition after an update.

The old one is unused or too small.

However:

You must confirm which partition Windows is actually using before deleting anything.
You can check by running:

reagentc /info

It will show the active Windows Recovery location.

If the new partition is properly configured and enabled, deleting the old unused one is safe.
