The Asian Games have kicked off in Hangzhou with a stunning opening ceremony. The Asian family is once again united under the Games' official slogan "Heart to Heart, @Future" as 12,417 athletes get ready to compete in 481 medal events.
In this edition of The Hub, Wang Guan is reporting from Hangzhou and sat down with Randhir Singh, interim president of the Olympic Council of Asia, a former sports shooter and influential sports administrator. He tells Wang Guan that the opening ceremony was "beautifully done" and "impressive." He reckons that this edition of the Asian Games will be the "best ever." Singh says Asian sports is on the up and up and talks about his family affair with the Olympics and the Asian Games. Wang Guan also spoke to Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani, president of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), and discuss the unifying power of sports as well as China's rich experience in hosting international sporting events. They also look at China's men's basketball team now that the old guard has retired and look at the meteoric rise of the 3x3 "street basketball" format on the world's sporting stage.
