Super Nintendo Broken Shell Rebuild - Retro Console Restoration
In this video I build a Super Nintendo from my parts bin which consists of a couple of motherboards, the required hardware and a broken shell. This video focuses on the SNES housing and using super glue and baking soda to put things back where they belong and build up the missing pieces that are missing altogether. Although I've seen super glue and baking soda being used in technology related repairs more often on YouTube lately, I first saw this technique several years ago in content that focued on restoration of model cars like Matchbox and Hot Wheels and thought it was a very unique technique.
I didn't have to do anything to the motherboards. I cleaned them off camera and gave the cartridge ports a wipe-down. Once I inserted a cartridge a few times they were working flawlessly. I couldn't even reproduce it on camera. They were working 100% of the time when I put a cartridge in so I think they dust a little dusty.
I made the rookie mistake of assuming that Mario Paint was a good game to buy for this project, and it turned out that it doesn't support gameplay with the controller, but instead requires a proprietary SNES mouse. Unfortunately, at the time of posting this video I was not able to demonstrate that the controllers are indeed working due to this hiccup, but I'll be buying another game to test it out fully.
The shell was extremely yellow and due to the extend of repair work needed I opted to paint it to get in looking reasonable again. For my first paint job, it came out surprisingly well. This is definitely something I'll like to practice some more and get better at doing.
